ECIA’s GIPC develops guidelines on China tariffs

The ECIA Distributor Council assigned the Global Industry Practices Committee (GIPC) to identify multiple best practices regarding the transfer and/or exchange of information for the handling of China tariffs between electronic component Manufacturers and Distributors. 

Since the implementation of the China Tariff List 301 in July 2018 the electronic components authorized channel partners have been dealing with the sudden and unexpected challenges of implementing methods to manage and process the exchange of tariff information.

A distributor subject matter expert working group within the GIPC addressed the issue through research to provide best practices specifically regarding the transfer and/or exchange of information about this matter.

Manufacturers determine which policies best fit own needs

The document that is now available represents what distributors consider to be best practices by manufacturers for handling the China tariffs. Each manufacturer may determine which policies and practices best fits its own unique needs. This document does not represent a collective effort to require manufacturers to adopt or use a specific best practice.
