Schurter announces that the piezo switch PSE EX has attained approval according to ATEX class II 2 G Ex ib IIB T4.

The new rating enables the switch to be utilized in potentially explosive facilities above ground. Such environments can be found in oil/gas production systems, in the petrochemistry industry, as well as in paint and varnish mixing facilities.

The protection level of the PSE EX permits its application in areas where an explosive atmosphere can arise from a mix of air and gases, vapors or mists. Preparations for extending the approval to include dust-Ex applications are underway.

The standard design is available for a mounting diameter of 16mm. Switching action is normally open. Voltage and current maximums are 24 Vdc/Vac and 40 mA respectively. The housing is offered in both aluminium and stainless steel. Color variations are available with the aluminium version. Lettering is also possible. The PSE EX is equipped with standard pin terminals. Additional mounting diameters and connection options are available with sufficient order quantities. The switches for Ex applications are labeled with the type of approval and an identification number. In accordance with the ATEX guidelines, an installation manual is provided with each PSE EX shipment.
