Weidmuller terminal blocks receive new approvals for thermal aging and seismic qualification.

Weidmuller of Markham has announced that they have secured Seismic approval for several families of their DIN-rail mounted terminal blocks.  These include the W (screw clamp), KDKS (screw clamp fuse terminal), P (Push In connection), Z (tension clamp) and AKZ (TS15 screw clamp) series. This further expands Weidmuller’s range of DIN-rail mounted terminal blocks that have approvals for thermal aging and seismic qualification for cabinet-mounted instrumentation and control equipment. These approvals certify that the terminal blocks meet necessary standards for use in nuclear applications in addition to general industrial applications.

The seismic testing is conducted to determine if products are capable of maintaining specified performance requirements before, during and following a Design Basis Earthquake (DBE). The test for thermal aging determines if the product can withstand temperatures of 38°C for a minimum of 40 years.

The new approvals apply to Weidmuller DIN-rail mounted terminal blocks that feature housings made from Wemid, which has a UL 94 V-0 flammability rating. This includes Weidmuller’s screw clamp, tension clamp and Push-in technology terminal blocks that are DIN-rail mountable on TS 35 rail. In addition, a selected group of TS 15 DIN-rail mount screw clamp terminal blocks have received the new seismic approvals.

The approvals for thermal aging and seismic qualification for cabinet-mounted instrumentation and control equipment are in accordance with AECL Technical specification 98-68000-TS-011 Rev.1, and AECL technical specification 87-30000-TS-005.
