MobileBench, a consortium of leading companies in the mobile industry dedicated to the development of performance assessment tools for industry-wide use on smartphones and tablets, will be gathering for its second General Session on October 16 in Shanghai, China.

The consortium is currently developing two professional benchmark tools: the MobileBench benchmark for measuring hardware performance and the companion MobileBench-UX benchmark containing system-level applications that test factors affecting user experience. MobileBench is a credible, fair and accurate alternative to non-professional benchmarking tools for Android smartphones and tablets and is on track for public release in late 2014. At the General Session in Shanghai, consortium members will be briefed on the ongoing MobileBench development efforts and invited to test drive pre-release versions of the benchmark. Industry and government speakers will also present their views at this high-profile event.

Consisting of developers, adopters and honorary members, the MobileBench Consortium continues to seek new members from throughout the industry.

“Intel is pleased to have joined the MobileBench Consortium during the past year,” said Shervin Kheradpir, vice president of the sales and marketing group and general manager of Platform Evaluation and Competitive Assessment at Intel Corp. “We support efforts that advance the state of benchmarking in the industry, and are active participants in several benchmarking consortia and benchmark development programs. Intel is committed to work alongside the other members of the MobileBench Consortium to grow the number of industry-supported benchmarking tools available for Android.”
