Dorigo Systems Ltd, leading contract manufacturers of printed circuit board assemblies (pcba) in the Pacific Northwest, has added some new production equipment in an effort to advance its manufacturing capabilities and increase throughput.

The Burnaby BC-based firm recently added Panasonic’s NPM-W modular placement machines to its newest SMT assembly line. The upgraded line includes four of the Panasonic units, capable of handling large pcbs up to 750 x 550mm, components ranging from 0402 metric (01005 imperial) to 100 x 90 x 28mm tall and connector sizes up to 150 x 25mm. Features include: automatic support pin placement to ensure accurate support without damage to components on the underside of the board, a multi-functional transfer unit for flux or solder paste dip application in production of package on package devices; placement height control sensors to compensate for any pcb topography variance; 3D sensors for better pick and placement of the latest component technologies and SMART feeders which allows for quick changeover, traceability and feeder anywhere capability.

The modular design of new line can support complex and high mix pcb assemblies. Each module is equipped with two versatile and flexible heads on 2 gantries with up to 16 nozzles, boosting placement tact time of up to 70,000 chips per hour (CPH), or 0.051 second/chip.

“We are continually investing in our infrastructure to best serve our customer’s needs,” says Dorigo president Mark Pillon, P.Eng.,. “The introduction of these units ensures we can exceed current manufacturing requirements and be well positioned for our future growth.”
