Strengthens EMC services with deal

TÜV SÜD is strengthening its service offering in the context of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) measurements by acquiring Global EMC Inc. in Canada. The acquisition will reinforce TÜV SÜD’s market presence in North America and enable the company to meet the increasing demand for EMC services in numerous industries more efficiently and effectively.

“The acquisition of Global EMC will strengthen our presence and our service offering in North America,” explains Ian Nicol, president and CEO of TÜV SÜD America Inc. “With a wide portfolio of offerings across many industries Global EMC complements our existing services and provides the perfect base for expanding the offering to our North American customer base especially in Canada.”

Established in 2000, Global EMC Inc. has several EMC test chambers located in Gormley ON and Laval QC and holds accreditations for various product scopes, including industrial products, medical devices, household appliances, radio immunity and photobiological safety. Using the services and accreditations of Global EMC, customers have been able to develop products for global markets such as the USA, Europe, Australia and New Zealand and Japan. By enhancing TÜV SÜD’s global network of EMC laboratories, the addition of Global EMC Inc. will significantly expand this service in the future. To date TÜV SÜD has offered EMC testing at four locations in North America, including two in San Diego (California), Plymouth (Michigan) and New Brighton (Minnesota), and operates over 20 EMC laboratories worldwide.

TÜV SÜD Product Service supports manufacturers and importers in a host of industries such as the automotive, medical device, signaling systems and industrial and construction machinery industries, providing a broad range of EMC services. The EMC experts at TÜV SÜD Product Service assist OEMs right from the design and development phase of new products, helping them to ensure their products’ compliance with the regulatory acts of the target markets. “Our early involvement ensures that we can contribute significantly to the prevention of costly and time-consuming design problems or reworking, providing our customers with competitive edge and tangible value added,” explains Nicol.
