Molex acquisitions strengthens role in printed, medical electronics

Interconnect player buys Soligie Inc. and ProTek Medical Ltd

Molex Inc., Lisle IL, a global manufacturer of complete interconnect solutions recently announced its acquisition of two specialized players in the electronics industry.

The first was acquiring certain assets of Soligie Inc., Savage MN, specialists in printed and flexible electronic solutions for applications in medical, military, industrial, lighting and consumer goods. Products range from sensor systems, medical wearables, LED lighting, specialized RFID labels, and devices that enable the Internet of Things (IoT). The strategic acquisition of Soligie’s business complements Molex printed circuit-based solutions, including membrane switches, polymer thick film circuits, copper flex circuits and printed circuit board assemblies.

“Soligie’s business expands our capabilities in the high-growth field of printed electronics,” said Todd Hester, vice president and general manager, Molex Printed Circuit Products business unit. “With this acquistion, we can deliver a more comprehensive set of technologies and expertise for creating higher value, innovative electronic solutions.”

Molex has also recently acquired ProTek Medical Ltd. Ireland-based contract engineering design and manufacturing firm specializes in cleanroom injection molding, assembly and other custom solutions for medical device OEMs.

“This strategic acquisition broadens the scope of our integrated medical solution offerings and significantly strengthens our medical device design, manufacturing, and test capabilities,” according to Tim Ruff, senior vice president of business development and corporate strategy, Molex. “ProTek Medical Ltd. excels in cleanroom injection molding and assembly, has an extensive metrology lab, and the quality and regulatory expertise that is critical to global medical device manufacturers.” ProTek Medical Ltd. will continue to operate as a subsidiary of Molex Ireland Holdings, B.V. Founded in 1995, ProTek Medical Ltd. has a diverse portfolio, with proven success in applications that include cardiac rhythm management components, infusion finished devices, and vascular delivery devices. A recipient of numerous customer awards, ProTek Medical Ltd. has earned an industry reputation for design, engineering, manufacturing, finished assembly and testing of critical medical devices.
