Central Semiconductor Corp., Hauppauge NY, is proudly celebrating its fortieth anniversary in the industry as a manufacturer of discrete semiconductors. Since its inception, Central has consistently supplied high-quality innovative products, with outstanding service, to a worldwide customer base.

Central opened its doors in 1974 when founder, Jack Radgowski, saw an opportunity to manufacture diminishing source germanium semiconductors, which, at the time, were being discontinued by other manufacturers. Central immediately experienced high demand from OEMs in dire need of these devices for their current designs. Even now, Central prides itself on meeting the challenges associated with hard to find discrete devices.

Today, Central Semiconductor also supplies state-of-the art, leading edge technology discretes for a wide variety of the latest high-tech products, from smart phones and tablets, to bar code scanners, to portable medical devices and telecom systems. Many of Central’s devices are industry firsts that have solved design challenges for leading OEMs globally. At the same time, Central continues to manufacture trailing edge, legacy-type devices still needed by many manufacturers of long-life cycle products.

In addition to consumer, medical, and networking, Central manufactures many products perfect for the industrial, lighting, and alternative energy markets. Central also excels at supporting customers’ unique requirements including custom, special, and selected versions of devices. Most recently, bare die products were added to round out Central’s extensive discrete semiconductor portfolio.

“Central’s unique ability to support customers’ requirements for both leading edge and trailing edge devices, as well as our flexibility to provide custom and special devices, has been the cornerstone of our success,” says Central CEO Radgowski. “We are infinitely gratified to have reached the 40-year milestone together, as a team driven to satisfy customers and continue our long history of steady, profitable growth.”

Central’s dedication to meeting and exceeding customers’ needs is further illustrated by its 99.5% on-time delivery target, which it has exceeded for two years running. Adding to Central’s success in this area, is its extensive inventory of completed devices, wafers and other critical raw materials, allowing for quick delivery. Central is certainly an exception in an industry often marred by long lead times.

“Central’s customer-centered culture of continuous improvement and resourcefulness is at the core of our longevity,” adds Susan Ryan, president of Central Semiconductor. “Our team is truly determined to be the preferred manufacturer of the most innovative discrete semiconductors in the industry; and with our inspired vision for the future, we are well-poised to exceed customers’ expectations for years to come. We have only just begun.
