In an effort to improve manufacturing opportunities and expand its international presence, Burlington ON-based provider of advanced electronic controls and control systems Etratech Inc., has formed a strategic partnership with electronic manufacturing services (EMS) provider Summit/ems Corp., Logansport IN.

Etratech, a 25-year old company, is RoHS-compliant and certified to the stringent ISO/TS 16949:2009 standards. In addition to its headquarters in Southern Ontario, the company owns and operates a 48,000-square-foot facility in Shenzhen PRC under the banner Etratech Asia-Pacific Limited. Etratech Asia-Pacific Ltd. specializes in turnkey design and manufacture of high-volume electronic controls and control systems for many international OEM’s.

The relationship with Summit further extends the firm’s global footprint, providing a US-based manufacturing alternative. Companies headquartered in North America will now have local access to Etratech’s suite of design and development services, as well as to the China-based manufacturing operation. Furthermore, while Etratech has expertise across several vertical markets, the company’s highly specialized solutions for the automotive industry will be an asset to Summit. Summit currently specializes in the energy conservation, alternative energy, agriculture and security markets, a strong complement to Etratech’s offerings.

“The partnership with Summit not only adds to our portfolio of solutions, it also allows us to entertain smaller volume projects,” says Michael Desnoyers, president and CEO of Etratech. Desnoyers also recognizes the benefit the company’s China based-facility will bring to new US clients. “Most North American companies have little expertise with Asian sourcing. Through our facility in Shenzhen, we’ve gained a tremendous amount of knowledge of customs and business protocol in China. We’re pleased to be able to share that knowledge with Summit’s clients and other US companies.”

“Etratech’s certifications and growing team of engineers will enable us to take on higher-volume projects in the future,” says Larry Graf, president of Summit. “Our shared focus on premium service will ensure that all our customers are well cared for.”
